Foreign Policy Research Institute | Virtual Event

Event Description: “Please join FPRI and MERIP for a special event discussing political developments surrounding this year’s World Cup, the first to be hosted in the Arab world. Qatar’s World Cup bid was marked by accusations of corruption and serious concerns about human rights violations amid a massive investment in construction and infrastructure that has remade the small gulf kingdom’s landscape to host a month’s worth of soccer matches. The World Cup arrives at a moment when Qatari influence across the region, from Egypt to Turkey and beyond appears to be reaching a climax. This event will feature three contributing authors to the most recent issue of Middle East Report discussing their contributions and reactions to some of the dramatic stories coming out of the event with FPRI’s Director of Research, James Ryan.
