Description: Russian invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022 has brought a renewed sense of concerns about the threats posed by nuclear weapons to international security. Japan, as the only country to have ever suffered the horror of nuclear weapons in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, while also having to rely on U.S. extended nuclear deterrence as an integral part of its national security, has long been trying to grapple with the concept of “nuclear deterrence.” Please join Yuki Tatsumi, Director of Japan Program, for a conversation with Dr. Nobumasa Akiyama, Japan’s foremost experts on these critical issues.
