Center for Strategic & International Studies| In-Person Event

Description: Please join CSIS on Monday, December 4th at 9:00am for a discussion with Rep. Deborah Ross (D-NC) to examine the role of intellectual property (IP) in innovation and geopolitical competition, highlighting how the PREVAIL Act may impact U.S. competitiveness and national security. The United States’ economic and national security rests on technological innovation, which is upheld by a system of secure intellectual property rights. Yet, the U.S. has not updated this system for the modern age of intense global technological competition. To cultivate an innovation ecosystem which enables the U.S. to “run faster” in this competition, new proposed legislation like the PREVAIL Act is designed to strengthen IP protections, thereby boosting innovation. Following the conversation with Rep. Ross, a panel discussion with Henry Hadad, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Council at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Tom Brown, Senior Legal Director at Dell, will examine the context surrounding the PREVAIL Act. This hybrid event will be moderated by Andrei Iancu, CSIS Senior Adviser and former Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
