Description: Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Norway has emerged as the number one supplier of natural gas to Europe. Norwegian natural gas output is projected to reach record highs, reflecting the continued demand in Europe due to ongoing geopolitical concerns from the war in Ukraine. At the same time, Norway looks to balance higher energy prices and energy security concerns while maintaining its commitment to the energy transition. Achieving the transition will require increased renewable energy production, building out the electric power grid, stronger energy efficiency, and sustained decarbonization measures. The CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program is pleased to host Terje Aasland, Minister of Petroleum and Energy of Norway, for a discussion on Norway’s vital role as an energy supplier, and how the United States and Norway are working together towards providing a stable energy supply and a sustainable and just transition. Moderated by Joseph Majkut, Director of the CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program.
