Description: The Middle East has endured record heat this summer. Parts of coastal Iran saw a heat index of 158 degrees in early August, conditions in which humans cannot survive outdoors for more than a few hours. Countries bordering the Gulf are also experiencing growing water stress, increasingly common dust storms, and accelerating environmental degradation. None of these issues can be adequately addressed unilaterally. Please join the CSIS Middle East Program for a discussion on Gulf states’ strategies for dealing with climate change and an exploration of new opportunities for cooperation between Arab Gulf states and Iran with Prof. Kaveh MadaniDr. Aisha al-Sarihi, and Amb. Douglas Silliman, with introductory remarks from Jason Rezaian and moderated by Dr. Jon Alterman.
