Description: Please join the CSIS Trustee Chair in Chinese Business and Economics and the Freeman Chair in China Studies for a roundtable discussion on how best to analyze the Chinese economy with an eye to the future. Sentiment on China’s economy has grown increasingly negative in the past few weeks, with public discourse variously emphasizing “structural” issues such as debt, demography, and China’s deteriorating relationship with the West. This roundtable will clarify the various perspectives and the data on which they are based, discuss metrics for how to judge the Chinese economy’s performance going forward, and consider the implications for the United States and the rest of the world.
