German Marshall Fund of the United States | In-Person Event

Description: Democratic backsliding has been a defining feature of modern politics and the transatlantic space has not been immune to this trend. The subversive effect of autocratic efforts to undermine democracy has concerned leaders across Europe and the United States. Ahead of the hugely important elections taking place on both sides of the Atlantic in 2024, this in-person session will aim to explore how governments and the various pillars of democratic society can better bolster democratic resilience from within—and how we, as allies and partners, can exchange lessons learned across national boundaries.Speakers will describe how autocratic tools and tactics are evolving, particularly as technology rapidly evolves, to hasten democratic decline.  They will also give examples of policy measures and best practices that have helped to defend against, deter, and raise the costs on autocratic tactics that undermine our democracies.
