The Michael V. Hayden Center for Intelligence, Policy, and International Security is pleased to report that General Michael V. Hayden (USAF-Retired) has returned home after weeks of intensive inpatient rehabilitation following the stroke he suffered in late November. The former director of both the Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency has begun the next phase of his recovery, which will include more time at in-home and outpatient rehabilitative care.
General Hayden, his wife Jeanine, and their family extend their gratitude to John Rockwood, the President of the MedStar National Rehabilitative Network, and the doctors, therapists, nurses, staff, and volunteers at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC, for their wonderful support as General Hayden began the rehabilitation process. They would also like to thank the medical professionals in the emergency room and neurological ICU at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA, for their care and attention during the critical period following the stroke as well as the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department for its quick response and emergency care provided on the day of the stroke.
They were also highly appreciative of the help, gifts, letters, cards, notes, emails, Twitter tweets, Facebook posts, and well wishes from family, friends, and colleagues across the United States and around the world. “I won’t be able to thank each of them personally, but they should know that I wouldn’t be where I am today without their encouragement,” said General Hayden.
