The Atlantic Council | In-Person & Virtual Event

Description: Please join the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security’s Forward Defense program for the next event in the Captains of Industry series titled “Strengthening the middleground of the defense-industrial landscape” on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET at the Atlantic Council headquarters and via livestream. This event features a moderated discussion about the role middleground companies play to strengthen the defense-industrial ecosystem, with John Goodman, Chief Executive Officer, Accenture Federal Services, William J. Lynn III, Chairman Chief Executive Officer of Leonardo DRS, and Ellen M. Lord, former Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment. The Pentagon’s National Defense Industrial Strategy (NDIS) expresses the imperative of “strengthening and modernizing our defense industrial base ecosystem” and sets priorities for meeting those challenges. In ecology, middleground is the land which buffers and intermediates the needs of pristine nature and human-dominated spaces. So too, in a healthy defense-industrial ecosystem, do companies occupying the middleground between ubiquitous small companies and preponderant big ones play important, salutary roles. The captains of industry assembled for this event will discuss issues that face these middleground companies, and how public policies and corporate strategies can address them.
