SUMMARY:Climate Diplomacy in South Asia: Transboundary Challenges\, Collective Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Stimson Center | Virtual Event \nDescription: Climate change has no borders. In the face of escalating climate-induced vulnerabilities and transboundary disasters\, South Asian states find themselves at a crossroads where regional cooperation is imperative for effective adaptation and mitigation. From the interconnected challenges of managing transboundary water resources to addressing the urgent issue of climate-induced migration\, the region faces a complex web of geopolitical\, socio-economic\, and environmental hurdles. Despite shared vulnerabilities and similar institutional frameworks\, structural barriers such as data secrecy and outdated agreements often hinder the path toward meaningful cooperation. Entrenched geopolitical rivalry plays an enormous role in perpetuating these barriers\, but there are feasible steps each country can take to overcome them. South Asian Voices collaborated with The Third Pole on a series aimed at igniting dialogue and action for a more collaborative approach to combating climate change in South Asia. In this event\, authors of the series will reflect on their recent contributions to SAV. DESCRIPTION:German Marshall Fund |In-Person Event \nDescription: Amid a stalled accession process and a lack of progress on critical issues such as structured foreign policy dialogue\, visa liberalization\, and customs union modernization\, the EU and Türkiye need a positive agenda to guide their relations. Connectivity initiatives prevail as a new ground for cooperation given geopolitical developments and geo-economic shifts\, and the Middle Corridor is a promising avenue for linking Europe to Central Asia and beyond\, facilitating transportation and access to energy resources. In addition\, Türkiye’s proposal of the Development Corridor further underscores its commitment to enhancing connectivity\, offering a North-South axis in Iraq that connects Basra to Türkiye and extends to Europe and the Middle Corridor. Türkiye stands poised as a significant potential partner for EU connectivity as it leverages its strategic location and robust network of relationships\, especially within the Council of Turkic States.
