SUMMARY:Strengthening Democracy in the Americas
DESCRIPTION:United States Institute of Peace | In-Person Event \nDescription: The Inter-American Democratic Charter establishes democracy as essential for the development of the Americas\, highlighting the need for strong democratic institutions in the face of global challenges. Join USIP and the Carter Center for a conversation focused on strengthening democracy across the hemisphere. The discussion will bring together the Friends of the Inter-American Democratic Charter\, leaders and experts to formulate actionable strategies for democratic resilience\, share best practices and examine lessons learned in democratic preservation to ensure that democracy continues to thrive and benefit the peoples of the Americas. \nThe registration link can be found below.

SUMMARY:Can Connectivity Reconnect the EU and Türkiye?
DESCRIPTION:German Marshall Fund |In-Person Event \nDescription: Amid a stalled accession process and a lack of progress on critical issues such as structured foreign policy dialogue\, visa liberalization\, and customs union modernization\, the EU and Türkiye need a positive agenda to guide their relations. Connectivity initiatives prevail as a new ground for cooperation given geopolitical developments and geo-economic shifts\, and the Middle Corridor is a promising avenue for linking Europe to Central Asia and beyond\, facilitating transportation and access to energy resources. In addition\, Türkiye’s proposal of the Development Corridor further underscores its commitment to enhancing connectivity\, offering a North-South axis in Iraq that connects Basra to Türkiye and extends to Europe and the Middle Corridor. Türkiye stands poised as a significant potential partner for EU connectivity as it leverages its strategic location and robust network of relationships\, especially within the Council of Turkic States. Join us for a conversation on the opportunities and challenges of cooperation on connectivity between Türkiye and the EU. A light lunch will be served before the event. Please RSVP by May 27 by clicking the button above. Should you have any questions or require special assistance\, please contact contact Ceylan Canbilek at ccanbilek@gmfus.org. This event is part of a series of events and analyses organized by the GMF-Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Fellowship on Türkiye\, Europe\, and Global Issues. The fellowship was launched in 2017. The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a nonpartisan policy organization committed to the idea that the United States and Europe are stronger together. \nThe registration link can be found below.
