SUMMARY:The Red Zone: Charting Paths to Resilience in the Climate-Conflict Nexus
DESCRIPTION:Center for Strategic and International Studies | In-Person & Virtual event \nDescription: The interplay between climate change and conflict has exacerbated humanitarian crisis and human insecurity globally. In an era marked by rising temperatures\, water scarcity\, and protracted conflict–from the arid landscapes of the Middle East to land degradation of Sub-Saharan Africa–the impact of climate shocks and violence is unmistakable and costly. The humanitarian sector must respond to the gravest needs while navigating the complex terrain of climate adaptation in crisis-affected regions\, overcoming funding barriers\, and bolstering resilience against climate variability. It is imperative that the international community mobilizes resources and implements robust strategies to address these intertwined challenges\, ensuring the protection and well-being of vulnerable communities. The Washington Humanitarian Forum 2024 will feature conversations at the intersection of climate change\, conflict\, and finance. The intersection of these crises magnifies vulnerabilities\, leaving populations even more susceptible to extreme weather events and increased violence. The conference will spotlight this nexus and emphasize the imperative for swift and substantial climate financing to bolster resilience and alleviate human suffering. Join us as we explore innovative climate solutions\, forge new partnerships between sectors\, and advocate for urgent policy action to address the pressing challenges of climate change and conflict on a global scale. \nThe registration link can be found below.
