SUMMARY:Rising to the Moment - Launching USAID's new Bureau for Democracy\, Human Rights\, and Governance
DESCRIPTION:Center For Strategic & International Studies | In-Person Event \nDescription: Please join the CSIS Project on Prosperity and Development and the CSIS Human Rights Initiative\, in collaboration with USAID’s new Democracy\, Human Rights and Governance (DRG) Bureau\, on Tuesday\, October 3 from 3:00 – 4:15 PM ET for an engaging panel discussion featuring DRG leaders on the launch of the Bureau at this pivotal moment. The event will include keynote remarks from the DRG Bureau’s Assistant to the Administrator\, Shannon N Green\, followed by a panel that will explore ongoing challenges to democracy\, rights\, and governance priorities and how to holistically embrace DRG principles and practices in U.S. foreign policy and development assistance. Democracies are confronting serious challenges from within and across their borders\, and the U.S. Government must be bold and intentional in its response. Rising authoritarianism\, democratic backsliding\, rapid technological adoption\, rampant disinformation\, transnational corruption\, growing inequality\, the COVID pandemic\, and malign actions by Russia and China have all dramatically changed the development landscape and created significant democracy-\, rights- and governance-related challenges around the world.  USAID is working to modernize programming and adapt to meet many of these challenges\, including through the establishment of the Agency’s new Bureau for Democracy\, Human Rights\, and Governance\, an elevation intended to better advance a world where freedom is flourishing\, and democracy is delivering. \nThe registration link can be found below.
